The Adrenal Gland
- Are you tired of being tired?
- Feeling run down and stressed?
- Do you have trouble getting started in the morning or rely on caffeine and snacks to keep you going?
Your adrenal glands sit on top of your kidneys. While they may be small their impact on your body and the way you think and feel are huge. They allow your body to deal with stress whether internal or external and to dictate your reaction to the stressor. These stressors could be a difficult boss or working environment, family discord, financial obligations, too little sleep, bad dietary choices, etc.
The adrenal glands help the body cope with stress. The more stress a person experiences, the more fatigued his or her adrenal glands become. Adrenal fatigue is the exhaustion of the adrenal glands. This occurs when the body is under high stress for a prolonged period of time and the adrenal glands are overworked. As a result of the glands being overworked, they are unable to produce adequate quantities of hormones, primarily cortisol.
